Quintin Eights Head 2008
26th January 2008
Good conditions and a clear day finally gave us what we've been waiting
all season for - a race which has not been cancelled. Despite a last minute
substitution due to injury and some rather 'interesting' goings on at
the start of Quintin Head which meant that we raced in a complete void,
the men's senior VIII put it all behind them and got off to a cracking
start to the new year. Coming 3rd in S3 with a time of 10 mins 42, they
were just 2 seconds off 2nd place, and 12th overall out of 84 crews. Great
to finally get some racing in after a frustrating winter, and providing
a useful benchmark: we were placed 10-15 seconds off the top Senior 2
boats, giving us something to aim for over the coming season. Jonno Davidson
at stroke and Mike Dowell at 7 set the pace, with Dave Livingstone, Steve
Lydell, Pete Lydell and Pete Crush at 6, 5, 4 and 3 respectively providing
some real muscle in the middle of the boat, backed up all the way by Clive
Burrows at 2 and James Easton at bow, with Hannah Bailey coxing. A great
race, and thanks to Dave for stepping in at the eleventh hour.
