Masters Rowing & Sculling Group
Twickenham has a thriving Masters (Veteran) rowing and sculling section, with squads catering for all levels.
The recreational group boats once or twice a week to keep their hand in, and always welcomes newcomers – whether new to the sport or very often those who have decided to come back after the children have grown up and flown the nest.
We also have a successful “racing” group training 3 or 4 times a week throughout the year, often in sculling boats. These race at all the main events up to and including National Vets and Henley Vets – anything between Vet C and Vet G – with varying levels of success! It has been known to give some seniors a run for their money.
This group always needs new talent and most especially at the younger end of the scale.
Anyone who fits into the Master category who just wants to scull in their own time is also well catered for with a number of racks available for your own boat, or club boats available at off-peak times. You can take full advantage of a beautiful stretch of river unencumbered by other rowing clubs. We are even on a Listed View apparently!!
The groups are very interchangeable and members will arrange for themselves an annual tour somewhere exotic. 2010 sees us going to the Head of The Hooch in the USA and past tours have included the Secret City Head in Oak Ridge, Tennessee; the Masters International Regatta at Vichy; Head of the Charles in Boston; Dublin and Cork Heads in Ireland; The Quer Durch Berlin; Tigre Regatta – Buenos Aires; Masters’ Regatta in Amsterdam; the World Masters in Munich; the Vogalonga in Venice; the Delft den Haag race at Delft; the Roseninsel Achter race on Lake Starnberg near Munich and The Head of the Erne in Enniskillen.
