Twickenham at Henley Women’s Regatta
28th June 2009
Last weekend saw the 21st Henley Women’s Regatta and Twickenham had 20 members competing, which says a lot about the current health of the club. Special thanks to the large number of club coaches who have contributed to getting them there.
-The women’s 2nd VIII narrowly missed out in the qualification time trial, but were impressively competitive, given their novice status, beating a number of more experienced crews.
-The women’s 1st VIII qualified, but were narrowly beaten by a City of Cambridge crew who had only recently beaten them by a much larger margin. This latest result shows how much the crew is still improving and just how determined they are as athletes.
- The Junior 17 pair of Kate Smith and Ellie Blow moved into a double to race older girls in Junior Doubles and despite leading early, were beaten by a composite crew from the University of Durham. Unlike their opponents, our girls will be eligible for the same category next season and plan to come back stronger and faster.
